Betty E.'s Story
Jan, remember the 'Potluck Club'?? This picture was taken in August 1955. Just before my move to Arizona. . . It was a huge change in my life from then on.
When I moved to Scottsdale AZ, I finished school and in 1959 I married a fellow stationed at Williams AFB. After his discharge in 1960, we moved to CA. In the following years I stayed with the printing industry and three children. My youngest, a daughter, only lived nine hours. The ten following years was filled with company moves and many changes. The last big change came in 1970 when my husband left us in KS. We made our way back to CA as I had job waiting for me. The next twenty years was exciting and challenging in learning how to manage life as a single parent.
In all this time I seem to have pursued and accomplished things that interested me such as sewing, knitting, crochet and reading. Going to the li...Expand for more
brary was an every two week event for my sons' and I. About 1985 I left the printing industry to give government contracting a whirl. First as a word processor with all the changes that entailed to working with Civil Service as shore support for the Navy's new ships. I was fortunate to travel quite a bit from 1990 to 2006. Very good years.
Now I'm retired and busier than ever. I do spend a lot of time working in my son's garden and in my own garden here at the apartment. I do a lot of quilting projects and projects for my quilting guild in support of charities. So am I retired? I don't think so. . . It's just that there is no monetary exchange for my. . . 'busyness'.
It was interesting when I attended my 55th class reunion in 2010. I saw Janet Ellis, one of my 'Potluck' friends from HS. Now Jan has had a very interesting life. She is wonderful.
